You better be computer savvy if you buy this machine. The drivers are not up to date so you might as well go the emachine support site and download them BEFORE you even try to boot it up. I can guarantee many of these have been returned to the store they were bought from because alot of people thought they were just crappy laptops. Well..they arent..but in order to get the wireless and lan working good..youll have to get the latest drivers. Mine just wouldnt connect...but after all the latest drivers were loaded..it worked like a charm. If your looking for something that will connect to your wireless or lan right out of the box..forget it. These are actually very good running laptops once the drivers are loaded. The lack of a hard drive light irks me a bit..(especially when downloading windows updates)..but it works great and I love mine now. This machine is actually made by Acer...a very good company. I just wished they updated the drivers before they shipped them. I bought mine at the price of a cheap netbook..so I wont complain. Ive also pumped it up with 8gb of ddr3 sodimm..(its actually cheap)..and it screams really good now. Ive seen it on sale in the 270 to 320 range..so look around before you buy. Overall..id rate it much higher if werent for the driver issues. But if your savvy with loading drivers..then this little baby is a "sleeper bargain" when its on sale.

I went ahead and bought this computer even after reading the other Amazon review, and it turned out to be a good decision. I didn't have any of the driver issues that the other reviewer had. After the initial setup, I did have to restart the computer to make network connections work properly, but that was it. I can't complain about anything else. It's much better than the 4 year old laptop that I replaced with this. Been using it for a few weeks, over 10 hours/day, and haven't had issues with overheating yet. I found it at Micro Center for much less than advertised on Amazon.

So Cometh Windows 8!

With the unveiling of Windows 8 Transitional Computing Inc. finds itself reminiscing about Microsoft's previous OS releases and musing about how this next release will affect IT professionals and the businesses we support.

Microsoft began its journey into market dominance of the PC world in 1985 with its release of Windows 1.0; an interface management system that would eventually be followed by several iterations of the OS and become an integral part of how we do business today. Though Microsoft is clearly a market leader for its operating systems support of business applications, they have on occasion released operating systems that have been a source of frustration for IT professionals and the businesses we support.

This is no more prevalent than in Microsoft's release of Windows Vista. Though the OS was touted to have many improvements over its predecessor Windows XP (mostly in the arena of security features) it was plagued with performance issues. Benchmarks tests showed that Vista executed applications more slowly than Windows XP with the same hardware configuration. Further issues such as software bloat, software compatibility, poor power management on laptops, and the price to upgrade from XP to Vista all combined to make Vista an impractical solution for business owners and IT professionals alike. This had the unfortunate result of leaving business owners two generations of OS behind.

When Microsoft released Windows 7 in July of 2009 nearly 3 years after the release of Vista most business owners still found themselves running on an XP platform. Windows 7 was met with mostly positive acclaim. It easily out performed its predecessor Vista in the areas of usability and functionality with most reviewers saying Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.

In the eyes of IT professionals and business owners upgrading to Windows 7 however still had its drawbacks. With the general impression consumers and corporations had that Windows Vista was a stumble along the OS road, most consumers were reluctant to upgrade to what some considered a dressed up Vista. Upgrade fees were rather steep even for users upgrading from Vista to 7. Upgrades were available for users still running on an XP platform but only in the form of license upgrades.

What did this all mean for business owners?
Well, the small percentage running Vista could install Windows 7 over top their existing OS with no need to back up their applications and data or fear that their Vista applications would not be compatible with Windows 7. On the other foot XP users found that they had to perform "clean installs" and actually do all of the above listed things Vista users were not required to. From the perspective of Business owners this made the prospect of upgrading from XP to Windows 7 a daunting task. Even with the positive acclaim Windows 7 had received most did not see any meaningful advantage to upgrading.

As of April 2011, nearly 2 years after its release, Windows 7 has finally overtaken XP in the US market share. The "what" and the "why" of how Windows 7 finally replaced it's twice removed predecessor can be attributed to several factors. One notable reason was Microsoft's release of XP Mode for Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate. Initially available in Oct. 2009 as an application that launched a virtual XP environment, XP Mode allowed users to run legacy software that did not run natively inside Windows 7. This first iteration of XP Mode required microprocessors with hardware support for virtualization. Ironically the target audience that Microsoft was trying to reach with XP Mode, namely small to mid-sized businesses, now found themselves required to update their hardware in order to upgrade to Windows 7 making the cost prohibitive. Microsoft has since released an update that removes the hardware requirement for XP mode making it available to a wider range of users.

So where we are we at now with Windows 7?

Just when we feeling we are in good a place with Windows 7. So Cometh Windows 8! Well technically that's not true. At recent press conference when Microsoft gave us all our first look at the upcoming Windows OS they did announce that Windows 8 was not projected to be released until late 2012.

As IT professionals however it is our responsibility to keep abreast of these developments and try to predict what impact this will have on our clients.

At first glance Windows 8 looks to be Microsoft's big bid to enter the "post PC era". If you're not familiar with the term "post PC era" well its actual definitions seems to be a subject for open debate, but in reference to Windows 8 "post PC era" seems to refer to the switch over from desktop and laptop computers to the wider use of mobile devices such as tablet computers and smartphones.

The interface for Windows 8 is in fact based in part on the current Windows 7 phone interface. If you've never seen it before don't feel bad. The Windows 7 phone was poorly marketed and made barely a squeak on a mobile device stage that has been recently dominated by Apple and Android based smart phones and tablets.

As one would expect since the new OS is based on Smartphone technology it leans heavily towards touch screen based interactivity. Most of the demos Microsoft has put forth thus far tend to focus on the touch screen features. This is not to say Windows 8 is going to leave mouse and keyboard users out the cold. Though it is designed for the "post-PC era", Windows 8 looks more to us as though it is a bridge between device and dedicated PC users.

With such a drastic shift of focus some of you may be wondering how much consideration Microsoft put into compatibility. Microsoft has assured consumers that Windows 8 is not abandoning the Windows 7 usability model, it is expanding on it. Windows 8 will be able to run current Windows 7 applications on a comfortably familiar Windows Desktop. The Windows 8 Desktop will have expanded control for multi monitor displays allowing deeper customization of the view controls for each screen. What could throw some desktop users for a loop is the Windows 8 start menu, primarily because it is no longer a menu. Windows 8 will feature a customizable "Start Screen", a full screen tiled display that allows you to group apps together and swipe through several tiled groups. While this may be familiar enough for Windows 7 users to get the hang of, those migrating from XP might have a slightly steeper learning curve with this feature.

Can your hardware handle it?

For those who have updated their hardware within the past year the answer is a happy yes. If you are currently running Windows 7 without performance issues Microsoft touts that Windows 8 will run just as well if not better on the same hardware.

What's our verdict?

What we've seen so far leads us to believe Windows 8 is an upgrade that takes into account many of the headaches previous upgrades did not handle as successfully. Microsoft seems to have put the user experience under a microscope while developing their latest OS considering ease of transition and feature improvement. Whether the new features and cost of upgrading will prove to be a practical solution for IT pros and business owners still remains to be seen. We'll be keeping our eye on this product as it approaches its ultimate release, that's for sure.

I got this laptop for $330 here on Amazon after the 20% off back to school sale. The price that I've paid is fantastic for what you get. The laptop is currently listed as $450 (up from the $419 it was originally), which is retail and you can get it for a better deal elsewhere - currently tigerdirect has it for $399.

Functionally, the laptop is a great value. Even though the specs on this laptop is entry-level, it is still plenty fast for high-def video, web browsing, ms office, casual gaming, and light photo editing. The bottleneck seems to be the integrated intel 3000 graphics, so this isn't meant for graphic intensive games. The 1600x900 screen is great considering this is a sub-$400 laptop. At 1600x900, I appreciate the real estate and the ability to run 1080p natively. While this isn't a 1920x1200 screen like some higher end 17" laptops, it is still very usable.

The build of this laptop is solid. It is based on the Aspire case which is the same as some of Acer's higher-end offerings which has better components. The full keyboard feels nice and the trackpad is responsive.

Now for some "negatives." The laptop is large and heavy. You're not paying for a macbook pro here so it shouldn't be a surprise. If you haven't owned a 17" laptop before, you should decide whether or not you need one. Acer has 15.6" models too. The laptop isn't very good at multitasking. For example, I can't have it post-process photos in lightroom and watch HD netflix at the same time - the video will freeze. The battery life is relatively short, but usable at 2.5-3 hours. I don't take the laptop to many places except the living room or the library, so it doesn't bother me that much. The trackpad has a terrible time doing the 2-finger scrolling. The speakers are, well, laptop speakers.

So overall it's a great laptop for the money. Works great as a media center (I plug mine into my TV for netflix) or a secondary computer to browse the internet or watch some movies. Just don't expect it to be beyond entry level, and you'll be happy with it!

I had the same problem as another reviewer. I just bought the Gaming Titan and found that there is little or no product support. I looked for a service manual and found none. The manual that comes with the machine is absurd. To install additional drives, you need to slide down the cover in the front. You will see a piece sticking out...pull down on it lightly....it will go down automatically. You will see two slots with a plastic handles in front. Lift up the plastic handle and pull out the drive casing. Insert your drive into the casing and slip it back into the computer. Be careful when putting the drive into the casing. It has three small metal pieces sticking out that need to go into the screw holes in the drive. Otherwise, it is a fast computer that I got on sale for a killer price. I have built my last three computers, but could not build it for the price I bought it on sale for. Hope this helps.

I have had umpteen PC's over the years but finally settled on a laptop for everyday use. Toshibas have served me well and I have had five of them at different times. But even after adding a standard keyboard I began to miss the full-size of the PC so began a search. I probably spend too much time researching and sometimes still get "had" but it is just what I do. My only PC's...three of them since my HP back in the '90's...had been Dell. Liked the computers...hated dealing with their techs from hell and replacing drives. I did look into Dell but didn't find anything that fit all my home office needs anyway. But this Gateway model seemed to fill the bill....and now buying for less than half of what my Dell cost a few years ago with features and capacity unknown at that time....I decided to go with it.

Let me get the negatives out of the way...and there are only two I know of...and both have been mentioned by other reviewers. The keyboard is small...very tight fit. So I spent 12 bucks and bought a Logitech keyboard from Amazon...my second..the first being for my laptop. As an aside I have a lot of Logitech stuff and I have found it to be the best thought out...best built...most workable electronics around...and always at a great price. Anyway...keyboard problem solved. The other shortcoming is the very tight fit for the really hidden button for the R-W do it all drive. I have yet to hit it on the first try. Not show stopping but inconvenient.
The appearance of the computer is slick....shiny black with it's decorative lighting that can be turned off to save a little juice.

All in all I am pleased with my purchase. I must admit this is one of the few things I buy that did not come from Amazon. The price was about the same as Best Buy but at Amazon I would have had to pay freight. Anytime I can avoid freight charges I do.

I saw a review on this machine that gave it a low score for home use. I don't know why but to each his own. I do all my imaging on it....all my banking and everything else I have ever done and doubt I will ever run out of drive space or memory.
I have had the computer about a month...it was an easy setup, although I hate on- drive manuals. They are not much help if you need help setting up. Duh!! But it was such an easy setup and have yet to more than glimpse the manual anyway. I probably should give this five stars but just could not as Gateway surely could have sprung for a larger keyboard and better placement of the drive switches....and I guess nobody includes speakers in the lower end of the line anymore..and nobody at Best Buy told me there were no speakers....but I saved my sound system from an old Dell that does a great job.

I received Lenovo K330 77274HU Desktop 2 days ago, to replace my former one, a custom made hard working PC based on I7 860 with 8GB RAM and 2 GeForce 9800 1GB DDR3 (on SLI) with a Cooler Master 700W power supply.

The first thing I have to say is that this PC is beautifully assembled, and extremely silent, the most quiet PC I have ever used, even in turbo mode, and it was built with cleanness, very easy to replace parts. That's part of the difference when you buy brand like this instead of assembling custom made. It is also hard to gather all those quality parts for this price by your self.

Regading Tech Support: Before buying this PC from Amazon I contacted the Lenovo Service via chat to ask about the power supply (which seemed kind of low powered on the paper) and its ability to handle a better video card, I was kindly attended by a person named Bryan and received answers to all my questions. I also used Lenovo support page to look for driver updates after receiving my PC, it works very nice, all you have to do is enter the serial number of your PC and all available software updates appear. Mine was already up to date (after a Windows update). UPDATE: the chat option is no longer available on Lenovo's website.

It is faster than my former I7 PC, does not produce heat nor fan noise, very cool. Replacing a PCI card is very easy to accomplish and a tool less procedure if you follow the clear instructions from the hardware replacement manual. I have never seen such a well assembled PC, wow.

I liked that Chrome was installed as the default browser.

Windows 7 boot time is impressive, the faster I have ever seen. Lenovo has put some custom made tunings for W7, and it works.

Now the things I did not like it:

1) The video card is completely underpowered, this AMD Radeon HD 6450 can't decently run Call of Duty WAW at 1680x1050. I had to extract from my older PC one of my bulky Zotac GeForce 9800GT and replace the AMD Card, which is very small and light when compared with my 2 years old card, I guess it is a new generation of video card. The difference was impressive when using the 9800GT. The Microsoft driver was already there but I installed the latest nVidia, the Windows performance numbers jumped from 5.0 (on graphics) to 6.8 with this old card using nVidia driver! Wow, the game now runs very well... but for no more than 2 minutes, then the machine hangs, I guess the power supply unit can't handle my Geforce 9800. I am trying to figure out which graphics card can be used as an upgrade considering the 280W PSU. Lenovo has not published this information, and it is not clear if the PSU can be upgraded either.

2) The mouse got a chirp whenever I click the left button after 1 day of using it!, like an old car, I am not joking, it is annoying... I guess it needs some oil somewhere inside... This piece does not match the quality of the rest of the equipment. The keyboard is also inferior when compared with my old one, a similar Microsoft wired keyboard with optical mouse. It does not have special keys for launching calculator, browser or multimedia. I could not find how to configure hot keys with the software included, which seems to be used only to program a special red key labeled by Lenovo.

3.- The front light that signal the current running mode (turbo/cool/etc) blinks all the time, which confused me a little, I thought something was going wrong. Fortunately it can be turned off.

4.- I have to uninstall some useless software, like Office "light" with advertisements, MCAfee antispyware and Norton antivirus, I already have a ESET Nod32 license, which I highly recommend. I don't know why the PCs don't include a very good antivirus factory loaded, is not that expensive, at least not with ESET. I also prevented from loading at startup a lot of accessories not vital for efficiently running the PC. I like it fast and lean, but that is my personal taste. I would have liked more not to spend all that time uninstalling and tuning Windows startup.

Conclusion: this is a luxury PC with a powerful CPU for a very good price, plenty of RAM and processing power, but you may consider replacing the video card if you plan to run some heavy graphics games, this machine deserves better considering that Lenovo markets it as a gaming machine. It is a pitty that you can't customize such a vital item before buying your PC, I wish Amazon could give us this option.

I RECOMMEND THIS PC as long as I figure out how to upgrade the video card without causing stability problems.

Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5230 15.6-Inch Laptop Pros: Solid product, didn't hiccup once during recovery media creation. Decent power to price ratio, one of the cheapest notebooks I could find with Win7 Home Premium instead of Starter.

Cons: Touchpad is a little far to the left and makes typing a bit difficult. Next day shipping was a day late also but I can attribute this to consistent bad luck with UPS.

Other Thoughts: Bought this unit for my brother to use while he's stuck in the hospital. Couldn't get WoW to work on the guest WiFi but from what I saw while I was setting it up for him at the house it looks like it will run at a decent frame rate on low settings. Nothing fancy at all but it gets what you need done and for the price tht your paying you really cant complain. I would reccomend this to anyone who needs to do a bit of school work online and some basic web surfing. I havent used any of the video editing software and I doubt I ever will but I do however, get online and use mostly wireless connections. It picks up my wifi signals almost immediately and there have been times where other ppl cant get online but somehow Im still able to. Im currently deployed to iraq and it takes a pretty good beating and still boots up no problem. I wouldnt say its indestructable but I do bang it around sometimes and take it from one place to another in my assult pack and it still never lets me down. The down side to owning this pc is definetly the poor audio speakers but since I almost always use headphones bc I have a roomate so it really doesnt matter to me. Be sure to take out the time to remove all the crap tht comes with toshiba from the memory, I honestly dont understand why it comes with so much junk but alot of it isnt needed I love music so any free memory I can spare is a must for me. I went out and got myself an external to DL bigger files and to back up the system but Im still kinda greedy....lol. If you're greedy too then please do remove the bloatware. Overall not a bad piece of equipment, its a bargain and I dont regret buying it :)

This computer is great. Even if it is an entry level computer, you can get pleasant gaming experiences, allowing for example to play WoW, View a HD video and copying large files through the Network at the same time. It also has some nice features, like the HDMI with video and sound over the same cable, Bluetooth. It also has a large HDD to store your information. The keyboard is comfortable and has a numpad... which is great for a notebook. My only complain so far is the problem with the clock.

The clock problem is: When ever the computer is shut down, the clock starts going too fast. For example after leaving it off through the night, it will indicate that it is around 6 hours ahead of the actual time. (This is in my case, I have heard of some people whose problem is worse... it speeds up 15 min per hour, whether shut down, or on).

Other than that issue, it is a great computer... If you can stand having to sync your clock with an internet time server every so often (or modify the task so it does it on its own every few minutes)... It is one of the best cost/performance computers available at this time.

Toshiba Satellite L775D-S7220 17.3-Inch LED Laptop Pros:

Large Display, Stays Cool (Unless Gaming), HDMI Ready, Good Speakers

Cons: Somewhat Slow Hard Disk, No 1080p (which is mentioned in the product description), and the flat keyboars can get a bit uncomfortable at times.

Other Thoughts: All in All, I'm VERY happy with this item. It's certainly quick enough for me once booted. I produce music, and this laptop has had no issues helping me do my job. No glitches, no pauses, no problems at all. The resolution is not 1080p, but it is HD, and the screen is HUGE. I had no idea how big 17.3" really was until I recieved this a few weeks back.

Unless gaming, this laptop should stay super cool. I've had FL Studio, Cubase, Chrome and Steam all running at once with no issues, and not heat problems. However, once you fire up a game on Steam, it will heat up like any other laptop.

I waited for this particular version with the BEATS audio and I think it was well worth the wait.

One NOTE OF CAUTION: The amazon website shows more of a maroon shade but the actual product is bright RED.

1) Processor Speed and RAM - Would have been good to have 2 GB RAM but since this netbook was for my mom, I didn't bother to get an upgrade. But if you are using this netbook for browsing and Skype etc, 1 GB RAM is good enough.

2) Windows - OS is starter version of Win 7 and does not have all the features as such. The part that surprises me the most is that in the starter edition, you cannot change you desktop wallpaper. How wierd is that? You can change the screen saver but can't change the wallpaper. How difficult would it have been for MS to put that feature. So again this is for my mom, so I didn't care else I would have upgraded to atleast Home edition.

3) Battery - Battery life was about 5-6 hours from what i observed in the past 2-3 days.

4) Laptop gets hot - I did find that the bottom of the laptop kinda gets hot but not too much.

5) Size and Weight - The size is just awesome and its perfect to go into any bag, bit or small. Its perfect for my mom to carry it around in her bag. The weight is ok and not too much.

6) Looks - The netbook looks awesome, they have some good colors and the I love the look and feel of the netbook.

7) Camera and Sound - Decent camera and sound is pretty good and its quite comparable to my old HP laptop DV4 series.

OVERALL, I think its a great buy for $299. You get more than you can ask for. If it wasn't for my mom and if it was for me, I would have upgraded the following:
a) RAM
b) Windows 7 - Home edition from Starter
c) Upgrade the screen Resolution

The color of this laptop is GORGEOUS. The picture does not do it justice. The keys are itty bitty and are not ideal for people with large fingers. Also, the backspace key jumps constantly and deletes to much.
Here is the real kicker, and I feel like a real idiot. This stupid thing has Windows 7 STARTER. As in, you cannot even change your flipping desktop background! I have to pay 80 dollars for the actual 7 operating system. It's not even worth it! I should have done my research but I am stupid. Until I can afford that operating system, this thing is practically useless for what I bought it for.

I have been running this Gateway for about two weeks. The set up could not be easier and the software install was extremely quick. I opted to use a LX310 Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. The supplied keyboard and mouse are OK. I was pleased to find a PCI slot that would acept my Asus high end Sound Card. I used isolation through a UPS for power and telephone cable. This was a good choice as we had a few storms pass through and power outages. I do not run games on this computer. Every thing performs well and even with a program with high graphics. My monitor HP 25 inch and which the onboard Graphics card handles ok. The only addition I will make is a high performance Graphics Card. The supplied on board HD4250 is nice however it does take up some of the board memory. I would recommend this computer to anyone looking for AMD 6 core proessor performance. The DX4350 handles everything with ease.

The main thing here is that you get Windows 7 Home Premium with the computer system. This computer is only marginally faster than my old dual processor computer, but it would have taken a lot of trouble & some money to upgrade that old one to Win 7, so I bought this complete system (computer, virtually worthless (5ppm, single function) HP inkjet printer, and a non-HD low-line HP monitor for $380. I gave the printer away. I hooked them old & new up through a router; now I have both available on the network!

So far, this computer has been good, except that I've had to mail it back to Texas so they can replace the DVD drive, which works until it hits a sector or part of the DVD, then it hangs. The terrible part of this is that only Acer can fix it, and there are *no* local service centers for Acer warranties! You have to ship it to Texas!!! That alone is good enough reason to buy for another vendor.

And I'll warn you about these all-in-ones: The components are very hard to access. Local computer stores who regularly work on laptops and desktops may not be able to help you with these.

I'll let you know how it goes when I get it back in a week or two. Very frustrating so far.

Everything else works well. There is no good kid (toddler) software, so I'll have to look for some to leverage the touch screen.

I know with a 14 inch laptop you're not expecting to get great speakers, but my 7-year old Dell laptop put this Vaio VPCEG to shame. You can hardly hear the speakers, and when you do, they're scratchy and tinny to the max. It's amazing to me that the engineers can't figure out how to put acceptable speakers in a smaller laptop. You'll have to go right out and get portable speaker upgrade for this machine.

Gateway NV55S04u 15.6-Inch Laptop Cons: The only legitimate con I could come up with is that the speakers are weak/borderline useless, compared to my previous laptop or anything really. But plug in headphones are a stereo and the sound quality is excellent.

Other Thoughts: A really, really sweet deal. I'd been trolling Newegg for a few months and researching CPUs on passmark a lot. It's 5 times faster than my 5 year old laptop!

It took a few days to completely customize it and get rid of the extra nonesense that came preinstalled, but it is a polished, shining gem now (literally).

The laptop is sleek on the outside and durable inside. Graphics are above average, and sound is impressive. The availability of three USB ports as well as a microphone and headphone jack is a plus. Processor is very fast and handles multitasking (i.e. document reading, pandora radio, powerpoint) very well. However, I was confused as to why Acer says the AS5733Z series has a 320 GB hard drive when it only had 280 GB when I booted it up. I don't believe this is Amazon's fault but more likely Acer's. The company must get their specs right or re-adjust the MSRP price of the product. I feel a little cheated even though it's just 40 GB, but I'm an unemployed full-time student, and I want to get the most out of my money. Anyone who works for Acer, or knows someone who does, reads this, please look into this problem.

I bought Sony VAIO VPC-EH11FX/B from Sony because I couldn't wait any longer. It was sold out on amazon. I had to wait a week for Sony to build it. It was worth the wait. When I recieved it I was so excited. It came packaged very well. When I took out the computer I could not believe how pink it was. It is so much pinker face to face then on the computer. If you love pink as much as I do you will like this very much. The white keyboard goes very well with the pink. I had an HP netbook before this, compared to my netbook the Sony Vaio is so much bigger. The screen on the computer is very big and clear. This compared to my HP,my HP looks like crap...even though it is crap. lol I can't say anything bad about it yet. But so far I like everything about it. I wanted this laptop because of the pink and because of the numbers on the side. It drew my attention immediatly. At first I was going to get the white one from Best Buy but my Fiance said there was a pink one and as soon as I saw it I wanted it. The pink one was sold out everywhere. So the only way I could get it was to order it from the Sony store. I ordered it on the 13th which was a Saturday and it was built on Monday. I just got it today which is the 23rd. I've had a week to play around with my new Dell Inspiron 14r and I must say that I was disappointed at first. My initial reaction to this machine wasn't due cosmetic or ergonomic factors, but performance. On paper, this Dell should be able to handle basic web surfing while listening to mp3s with some Windows updates going on in the background. But no, this guy would almost slow to a crawl. Opening a simple application, such as Mozilla Firefox, would take around 10 seconds and would often freeze after loading. Even the boot-up time was a painful 2 1/2 minutes. Now this laptop has an index rating of 5.8, indicating that the dismal performance wasn't due to hardware. Which led me to the other possible culprit: software. Specifically, Dell's crapware, bloatware, etc. When this computer finally loaded, there was Dell DataSafe Online, Dell Data Backup and Dell Dock all running in the background. Manually uninstalling these through control panel gave no positive results. So I did a clean install of Windows 7 and let me tell you, it is a world of difference! The machine boots in about a minute, all applications open and load much quicker (without freezing) and this Dell can now adequately handle anything I throw at it. So if you're considering this laptop, just know that you may experience some performance issues thanks to the useless applications Dell has installed. If you're computer savvy, don't hesitate to do a clean install of Windows 7, you will be a much happier user. I know I am.

Toshiba Satellite P775-S7232 Pros

I have had this laptop for a month now and no complaints! First thing I noticed after first start-up was the desktop was FREE of stupid adware that comes standard on all HP and Dell products! The desktop was almost empty and didn't have any silly startup programs. That by far is the most annoying thing is when you buy a new PC you have to spend 2 hrs getting all the junk software that comes with them. Next thing I noticed about the laptop that I really liked was the ability to charge my devices while the computers sleeps or the lid is down. The speed on this laptop is amazing. I have had some pretty hefty programs running and nothing has even come close to maxing out the 6gb. The weight of the laptop is pretty light considering the size of it. The 17.3in screen is amazing for watching movies! The keyboard is very comfortable to type on as well.

Alright so to start the windows performance scores for this laptop do not give it justice, be aware the processor rating does not include the Turbo speed of 2.5 Ghz. The 4 GB of ram is more than adequate, haven't gone above using 2 gb so far, and have benchmarked many apps so far. World of Warcraft ran at a respectable 45-60 FPS on medium settings, this was while doing Alterac Valley and other BG's. Overall this APU outperforms the new intel HD 3000 integrated chip, and with the turboboost speed will outperform many i3 and i5 intel models giving you the biggest bang for the buck. The point I will stress most is that this laptop at $450 is the best buy out there, you get a turboboosted 2.5 ghz chip, 240 stream processors with 512 dedicated video memory that is capable of playing WoW, CODMWF2, Crysis 2, and I will guarentee this laptop will play TOR once it comes out because MMO's have to be playable on everything from low to high end GPU's.

First things first, this is an excellent machine. Zippy fast, feels rock solid and user friendly. It is a bit bulky but like I said, feels solid. Keys are lit and feel really secure. As a whole, you feel like you purchased a rock solid machine that wasn't built with cheap materials.

I am extremely happy with this laptop. This is my first laptop so I don't have tons to compare to, but still very happy. There was an issue with the internet dropping when you got out of range of like 8 ft BUT review 5250-bz641 owner posted how to fix that. I did what he said

"Received laptop on 19.07.2011, wireless problem reproduced, stopped working at ~3 meters away from router.
WLAN driver version was Atheros ~May 2011
Downloaded version 9.2.0.316 from Acer driver download page, installed (new driver date is actually 3/11/2011, older than what it was, even though on Acer page it shows as 2011/07/07).
This seems to have fixed the problem (tested at ~20 meters)"

It took me a bit to figure out how to install the downloaded driver but once I did, it fixed the problem - now I can surf upstairs!!!
There is a lot of pop up stuff from ACER that I had to uninstall but I think that is normal with all computers nowdays. After I got the internet thing fixed I have NO complaints. It was a great price for a great laptop!!
